The Short Picks - 4-9-07
Apr 8th, 2007 by winabango
It is the start of week two, and I don’t know how you did, but I had my ups and downs this week. I seemed smart to bench Baldelli based upon his performance this week. Then he goes and gets 3 hits, including a homerun, and steals a base. In my 14-team H2H league I was tied in homeruns and stolen bases going into Sunday. NOT GOOD!
Here are my 3 position player picks from the waiver wire for the week:
- Casey Blake - CLE - How can you not go after a player who is scheduled to play 8 games this week. The first two games are scheduled to be against Seattle and their suspect pitching staff. Watch mlb.com closely on this because there is talk of the double header on Monday not happening as well. If they do play, this is a solid pickup.
- Elijah Dukes - TB - Most of you know about his hot start that has basically rendered Jonny Gomes useless. Personally I thought that Gomes was already useless. Dukes is hot, and has 7 games scheduled for this week. 3 against Texas and 4 against Minnesota. The toughest starter that he will face, other then Santana, is Robinson Tejeda or Boof Bonser.
- David DeJesus - KC - Kansas City also has 7 games this week. Neither Toronto, nor Baltimore have pitching staffs that will frighten you. What did he do last week? He hit .316 with a homerun, 2 RBI, and 3 runs scored.
All three of these players should help fill in your roster on the short days, and provide some production.
Here are 3 2-Start pitchers that have favorable matchups, and may be on your waiver wire:
- John Maine - NYM - After dominating the Cardinals, he will face the Phillies and Nationals this week. The Phillies may be the tougher of the two games, but both starts are at Shea Stadium, which an very pitcher friendly park.
- Daniel Cabrera - BAL - This could be the year that Cabrera finally lives up to all the hype. His two opponents are the Tigers (Durbin) and the Royals (Perez). The Tigers offense is strong, but the pitching matchup is what makes this a good play on both days.
- Tim Hudson - ATL - Like I said the other day, Hudson looked fantastic in the start that I saw. This week he will go up against Washington (Chico) and Florida (Sanchez). With how hot Atlanta is at the start of the year, ride this former pitching stud to some additional stats this week.
So how did I do last week?
- Shane Victorino - PHI - Hit .294 with 1 run scored and 2 RBI and 1 stolen base. Not a bad performance.
- Reed Johnson - TOR - Hit .316 with 3 runs scored, 3 RBI and 2 stolen bases. I think I got that one right.
- Lastings Milledge - NYM - 0 for 2 with nothing. Man I got this dead wrong. Thought for sure that he would play this week.
Good luck this week!
