The Short Picks - Week 3
Apr 15th, 2007 by winabango
Well another week down, and another week with lots of ups and downs. I have been getting killed by all of the rainouts this week, especially for my pitchers. In my 2 roto leagues I am not too worried, but I lost some key starters in my 2 H2H leagues that were supposed to pitch this weekend. Enough with my crying, here are my picks for this week:
Keep in mind that Boston and the entire NL have 7 games scheduled this week.
- Matt Diaz - OF - ATL - Has hit .400 over the last week with a stolen base. May not play everyday, but with Langerhans struggling, Atlanta may not have much of a choice. He is facing Washington’s pitching in the beginning of the week.
- Ryan Garko - 1B - CLE - Another player that should be playing everyday. The last 3 games he has hit in the 4th spot behind Hafner. That alone should give you indication of what he can do. BTW, he is hitting .471 this year, and is facing 2 week pitching staffs; NYY and TB
- Brad Hawpe - OF - COL - Many of us in deep leagues may already have Hawpe, but if he is on the waiver wire do not be afraid to grab him this week. He faces SF, LAD, SD, but all 7 games are at home.
Here are some 2 start pitchers for this week:
- Chuck James - ATL - Facing Washington to start the week, but the Mets at the end. He may not be able to maintain his 0.82 ERA, but grab him while he is hot.
- Edgar Gonzalez - ARI - Don’t let the 4.50 ERA scare you. In 2 starts this year, he has 10 strikeouts to 3 walks. His issue has been the long ball. There are not many pure power hitters on SF or LAD.
- Anthony Reyes - STL - Faces a struggling Pittsburgh offense, but a tough Cub lineup later in the week. The start against the Pirates will be work the risk against Chicago.
Here is how I did with last weeks picks
- Casey Blake - Hit .188 with a HR and 3 runs scored - not so good, but I got his HR the one day that I had him in the lineup on a short day.
- Elijah Dukes - Hit .053 and scored only 1 run. What was I thinking.
- David DeJesus - Hit .333 with 1 HR, 2 RBI, and 5 runs scored. I can lay claim to that one working out well.
- John Maine - The rain today messed up his 2nd start which was the better of the 2 this week. However he did a good job against Philly. Hard to call this one.
- Daniel Cabrera - 1 win and 10 strikeouts for the week, made this a solid pick for the week. Just to show that I use my own advice, I used him this week.
- Tim Hudson - I have been saying for weeks that Hudson is for real. How about 2 wins, 9 Ks, 3 BB, 7 hits in 12 innings of work.
I have always said that i am better at finding pitchers then hitters. Good luck to all of you this week.

are you still doing the rate my team thing? if so, i’m in a 7×7 with R, AVG, HR, RBI, W, K, and SB, and pitching, W, L, SV, BB, K, WHiP, and ERA.
I just traded Pujols and Sheets for Derrek Lee, Baldelli, and Bonderman. Was that smart?
C: Victor Martinez
1b: D. Lee
2b: Orlando Hudson
3b: Adrian Beltre
SS: H. Ramirez
OF: Andruw Jones
OF: Baldelli
OF: Nick Swisher
UTIL: Todd Helton
bn: glaus and magglio
P: Bonderman, Peavy, Felix Hernandez, Schilling,Harang, BJ Ryan, J. Valverde, S. Torres, Broxton, Neshek, and Jason Frasor.
thanks for your time.
I personally think that you made a good deal. I know that most will say that you were dumb for trading Pujols, but your team needed speed added somehow. Bonderman is not a down grade from Sheets. Lee and Baldelli will provide more speed, and combined may get the same amount of HRs as Pujols. So I think that the trade made your team stronger.

awesome. thanks for the help.
