Jack Cust

May 11th, 2007 by winabango

Today I want to put another player on the radar; Jack Cust. Cust has basically been a career minor league player, but with the injury to Mike Piazza he has quickly become a solid fill-in DH for Oakland. He has some solid power numbers, including hitting 49 homeruns over the last 2 season in Triple-A. So far this year he has put together this line:

.318 AVE, 6 runs, 5 homeruns, 11 RBI, .682 ISO
Those numbers have been put together in only 22 at bats, and the .682 ISO (Isolated Slugging) is through the roof. Before you get all excited and go pick him up in your league, know this: Once Piazza returns, there may not be any room for him on the Oakland roster.

However, until that day arrives, go and take a long look at him in AL-Only leagues, and deep mixed leagues. Even if the ride is temporary, it may be worth it. And who knows, maybe they put him in the outfield after Piazza returns.
