Andrew Miller

With the injury of Jeremy Bonderman another top pitching prospect is coming up. Everyone went bonkers over Phil Hughes and Tim Lincecum, but Andrew Miller has fallen under the radar. Miller is 6′6″ and is a power throwing lefty in the Tigers farm system. Earlier this year he was promoted from Single-A to Double A, because the Single-A team could field all of the ground balls that he induced so well. Now he is coming up to fill in for Bonderman. Here are his minor league stats from this year so far:
1 Win and 4 Losses, 2.92 ERA, 35 Ks, 15 Walks
Combine the solid K rate with a groundball style of pitching, and you may have a top notch starter really quick. Oh yeah, he has only given up 1 homerun this year. Don’t get too excited, because he may only make one start and then go back down once Bonderman returns.
Now the question is; Do you pick him up? If you have a pitch-and-ditch slot available, yes. He is facing a weak offense (except for some guy named Pujols) in St Louis on Friday. If it helps any, I have grabbed him in my 12 team roto for the start. I am hoping for 5 innings with 5 strikeouts, and maybe he steals a win.
I KNOW YOUR VERY BUSY… COULD YOU DO A MAYBE TOP 10 RANKINGS AT EACH POSITION? MAYBE DO A RISING OR A FALLING PLAYER ? SLEEPER? WHO WILL END UP WITH BETTER STATS? D LEE OR R HOWARD???
1) Congrats on the new little one!
2) Great site - can’t remember how I found it exactly, but have been visiting it regularly since the pre-season.
3) Do you have a favorite stats website? My pitching strategy is to stockpile mid-level starters and then play the matchups for the coming week. I like to compile a ytd and 7-day runs/game listing to help determine which pitchers to start. I have yet to find a site that provides this so I usually end up doing it manually (well, with Excel).
4) What are your thoughts on using a quality 2-start pitcher if both starts are against strong opponents? My latest case of this is Lackey next week who is @Det and @NYY. I’m already 1st in W’s and K’s, but 2nd to last in WHIP.
Thanks!
I will try to do those types of articles in the near future.
I use two main sites for stats; fangraphs.com and the Hardball Times. I love the graphical interpretation and all the sortable sabermetric stats.
I personally use all #1 starters no matter who they go against. I figure there is a reason why Lackey is as good as he is. He should still do fine against a high powered offense.

which of these deals is worst for me?
im giving
clemens+ monroe for Crawford
clemens+furcal+ a jones for berk + j reyes
clemens + monroe for bay
clemens +a jones + tehan for pujols +schmidt
those are the offers i have put out there
oliver perez or jorge sosa worth picking up ? i have a spot open with beckett is onthe dl..
thanks
Mosaicdanw3 - I think the deal for Bay would be the worst one of the ones there. Crawford is much better then Bay at this point.
Block Sox - Either Perez or Sosa would be great fill in pitchers at this point. I choose Perez in my league where I lost Beckett, and I picked up Sosa in another league because he is pitching as well as he is. I would take Perez over Sosa.
