Homer Bailey is on the way
Jun 3rd, 2007 by winabango
For all of you prospect pitcher watchers, Homer Bailey is scheduled to get the call-up this week. Homer Bailey was ranked fifth in the Baseball America Top 100 prospects for 2007. With all of the struggles on the Cincinnati pitching staff it is no surprise that he will be called up this week. I am not sure as too what they were waiting for. Did they really think the Kyle Lohse and Eric Milton were the answers to all of their problems? He is tentatively scheduled to pitch this Saturday against the Cleveland Indians. Here are his stats in Triple-A this year:
6 wins and 1 loss
58.1 Innings Pitched
2.31 ERA
1.27 WHIP
51 Strikeouts
24 Walks
3 Homeruns
.191 Batting Average against
He is sporting a solid ERA and WHIP with decent command. His strikeout to walk ratio (2.13) is not as good as it was last year (3.12), but it is still respectable. He is currently posting a 7.92 K/9 ratio as opposed to a gaudy 10.17 last year. I personally think that 6-8 strikeouts per game is very reasonable at this level.
I know that Bailey is a “can’t miss” prospect, much like Phil Hughes and Tim Lincecum, but I do not know if you would want to throw him against the Indians. I think that he should be picked up in all AL-Only and deep mixed leagues. Stash him away for his second start unless you like to take risks.

bronson arroyo??? what is his deal… killed me the last 2 weeks. what do you think of justin germano from sd? i picked up pedroia and stashed weeks on the IR. do i drop weeks for gutherie bal ?
josh johnson or mulder??? what u think of these waiver guys?
I wouldn’t drop weeks for guthrie…he’s got too much long term value. I don’t like either of those DL SPs much, but once the league figures out Germano, I might drop him for Johnson. Germano has shown excellent control but his lack of strikeouts will hurt him eventually. A good trade high guy IMO.
I would have to agree with Rick. Germano is definitely helped by this being the first time facing teams, and his home ball park being a pitcher park. San Diego’s defense is also very strong. Don’t drop Weeks for now, and keep your eye on Johnson. If he begins to have outstanding rehab starts then he may be worth it.
