Random Thoughts

Jun 7th, 2007 by winabango

I just want to ramble on about a few things that I have been watching so far this year in the Fantasy Baseball world.

…Bobby Abreu is nothing more then an on base percentage player with some speed and some power. The same issues that cropped up in Philly are doing the same thing in New York. He does not go all out for balls in the outfield, and he let’s perfect pitches go by early in the count. By the end of the year he value will be that of a 5th round pick in your draft for this year.

…Brandon Phillips is quietly having a very solid year in Cincinnati. He has scored 33 runs, hit 10 homeruns, had 32 RBI, and stole 9 bases so far this year. All while hitting a respectable .276. That is solid production from someone who could be taken in the middle of the draft this year.

…Why is Orlando Cabrera only owned in 56% of ESPN leagues when he is ranked 6th among shortstops in Yahoo. He is scoring a ton of runs because he is getting on base at a .381 clip and is even posting a .332 batting average.

…When are the Brewers going to get smart and bring up Yovanni Gallardo? In his last four starts he has pitched 24.2 innings and only struckout 40 batters. Oh and he has only allowed 4 earned runs over those four starts. Let’s go Brewers, get rid of Bush and bring him up already!!!

…Andrew Miller is coming back to Detroit to fill in for Nate Robertson. Since he was optioned down to Double-A he pitched in three games. In 22 innings of work, he picked up 2 wins, 17 strikeouts, and allowed only 2 earned runs. I think that Miller may stick with the big club and replace Maroth in the rotation once Robertson returns.

…Anybody notice Brad Lidge? Over the last month he has a 0.61 ERA with 21 K’s in 14.2 innings pitched. Over the same time period Wheeler has an ERA of 6.00 with 18 K’s in 12 innings. Lidge may be getting the closer role back. However, the Astros still suck and save opportunities may be as rare as Elmer Fudd actually catching Bugs Bunny.

Now that I have made a cartoon reference it is time for me to stop rambling. I will be available this afternoon for live help during the MLB draft. Happy hunting!
