Brian Fuentes Out.
Jul 1st, 2007 by winabango
The Rockies have removed Brian Fuentes from the closer role. Fuentes has blown his last four save opportunities, except not all of them were his fault. OK, the two homeruns were his fault, but the Matsui error was not. The Rockies said that this is only a temporary move, and probably will only last until the All-Star break.
However, if you are in desperate need of saves (like I am), this is a good situation to get a few cheap saves from another player. Most of the sites are reporting that Manny Corpas should get the job. Another option is Jorge Julio. Corpas has been pitching better over the course of the season, but Julio has experience closing. Of course, Julio also has plenty of experience imploding as well.
I have been carrying Corpas on my team for just over a week, because he has been pitching that well. So I am hoping that the Rockies use Corpas, but knowing my luck, they will use Julio.
