Pitch-and-Ditch for Tuesday Sept 18th
Sep 17th, 2007 by winabango
Starting tonight, and continuing for the next two weeks, I will be offering advice on two pitchers that have favorable matchups. These are my recommendations for doing pitch-and-ditch over the final two weeks. Hopefully you are using these recommendations for your Head-to-Head league championship. Here are the two starters for Tuesday:
Gil Meche - KC vs CWS - I am not sure if Meche is available on your waiver wire, but I have him available in all four of the leagues I am participating in. I know the Kansas City offense is not good, but the Chicago Offense has scored 35 fewer runs then the Royals this season. So these are two weak offenses. The second good thing about his matchup is that the game is in Kansas City which is a pitchers park, and most importantly, is ranked 20th in homeruns. The White Sox also hit only .247 against right-handed pitchers, and strikeout a ton. The final reason is his opposing pitcher, Gavin Floyd. Floyd is a young pitcher with control issues, and gives up homeruns at an alarming rates; 2.63 HR/9, 20.8% HR/FB.
Micah Owings - ARI vs SF - I am not sure if this is a good matchup based on recent performances, but on the surface the Arizona offense is better then San Francisco’s. Jonathon Sanchez is the opposing pitcher, who has struggled as of late. However, the Diamondbacks have the second worst batting average against lefties. There is really no other reason to pick Owings except that he has more productive starting innings under his belt this year. I think that Owings lasts longer into the game, and therefore get a better chance at a win. Maybe He will hit a homerun or two and give himself the offense that he will need.
One pitcher that I would avoid is Jon Lester. I am not saying he is bad, but the Blue Jays lead the league in Batting Average against lefties at an even .300. I wanted to recommend him, but I would not mess with the Blue Jay offense even with the strong Boston offense.
