Pitch-and-Ditch for Wednesday Sept 19th
Sep 18th, 2007 by winabango
Thanks to all that have e-mailed me with your questions about starting pitchers for this week. There was some confusion by some readers. I am recommending starters the day ahead, because in most leagues, you need to pickup your pitchers the day before their start. So here are two starters that you should take a look at for Wednesday:
Chuck James - ATL vs FLA - Chuck James was one of the Fantasy 411 choices for breakout pitcher for this year. He has shown signs of it, but has struggled from the 5th inning on. He has struggled with control and inconsistency, but the Marlins should help him feel better. The Marlins second highest team in strikeouts, and in the bottom third in walk taken. The greatest risk is the long ball. James may not get the win, but should strikeout enough to make his start worth while.
Mike Pelfrey - NYM vs WAS - Pelfrey is the top pitching prospect in the Mets system, and almost made the team out of Spring Training. The Mets have a great defense, especially up the middle, and the Nationals have hit into many double plays (131) over the season. Pelfrey also allows a much higher batting average against lefties (.310) then righties (.279), and the Nationals main three power threats hit from the right side. As long as Pelfrey doesn’t walk a lot of hitters, this is a strong matchup for him.
Another possible selection would be Matt Garza. A few weeks ago, Garza would most likely be owned by someone. However, his performance over the last few weeks may have ticked off most owners. The Rangers have the most strikeouts this season, and Garza has nasty stuff. On the other hand, Garza’s ERA at home is an awful 6.07 and he has a record of 0-5. I think he will pitch fine.
