Pitch-and-Ditch for Friday Sept 28th

Here are the pitch-and-ditch starters for Friday September 28th.
Kevin Slowey - MIN vs BOS - Under normal circumstances this would be an awful matchup since Kevin Slowey is facing Daisuke Matsuzaka in Boston. Matsuzaka’s recent struggles has been very well documented, but did you know that he has a 5.46 ERA against left-handed hitters? That is 1.90 points higher then his ERA against right-handed hitters. The Twins can have five lefties in the lineup, and six if Mauer plays at the DH spot. The Red Sox are also trying to get some of their big hitters a rest, and they are also trying to get some rehab playing time for Youkilis and Manny. As I said last week, Kevin Slowey is trying to prove that he belongs on the major league roster next year.
Kevin Correia - SF vs LAD - Kevin Correia is proving that he belongs in the Giants 2008 pitching rotation. What I like about Correia’s recent performances is the efficiency that he has pitched with. In his last start he pitched seven full innings with only 99 pitches. Over his last three starts he has averaged 16.27 pitchers per inning. That is a number that will allow him to go deeper into the game, even with a strict pitch count. As I mentioned last week, the key to Correia’s success will be directly tied to the number of walks allowed. In his last start he allowed two, but also allowed a total of eight walks in the previous two starts before that. Another reason to pick up Correia is that he is matched up against David Wells, who is very hittable. I just wish this game was being played in San Francisco.
One pitcher you will want to avoid is Tim Redding. He pitched his last outing, but he is facing the Phillies on the road in a must win game. His opponent is Cole Hamels who is starting to get his command back. Another interesting pick for those desperate owners is Todd Wellemeyer who is facing the Pirates. The Pirates have an inconsistent offense, but the lack of run support may cost Wellemeyer the win.
