So how did I do the final week?

Oct 3rd, 2007 by winabango

The second week of pitch-and-ditch selections did not start off to well. The ERA stats were helped with 5 unearned runs not being counted against the starting pitchers that I selected. Nine of the Ten starters selected went at least five innings. Here are what the accumulated pitching stats would have been the second week:

4 wins, 45 Ks, 4.31 ERA, 1.15 WHIP in 56.1 innings

I wish I had more wins, but they are so hard to predict. The only “disaster” start that I had was Lester against Oakland. He only lasted 4.1 innings, and allowed 4 earned runs. However, he did strike out 9 batters so it was a tolerable start.

Here is the combined stats for the two weeks of 20 pitch-and-ditch recommendations:

10 Wins, 93 Strike Outs, 3.78 ERA, 1.21 WHIP in 116.2 innings

Those are generally numbers that would win your two week head to head matchup. That’s a 50% winning percentage, 8.25 H/9, 7.17 K/9, 2.62 BB/9, 0.61 HR/9, and a solid 2.74 K/BB ratio.

I sure hope some of you used my research and recommendations to win your championship. Tomorrow I will let you know how I did in my leagues, because that is the true test of whether I have the right to do this blog.

I think I went 50/50 using your advice. I was in the race for the top spot in a 6×6 roto league with innings to spare, ERA and Whip were locked up, so i wanted to guarantee wins for myself. I picked up Hughes, Wainwright (who accomplished the goal) then Lester and Correia who didn’t.

Still great stuff…they were all available at least.

I did much better the first week then I did the second. As I said before, the Lester start was tolerable with the 9 Ks. It is extremely tough to pick pitchers that might still be on the waiver wire, and still pitch well in that matchup.

    Thanks for writing

I like Wainwright for next year at the end of the draft, he had a pretty decent end to his year.

btw, I won the league - so all ended well.

Wainwright did have a very solid last half of the year. However, with his strike out ability I don’t think that he will be a late round pitcher in 12-team leagues. I personally think that he will be a round 9 through 12 pick next year.
