Luke Scott

I was going through some articles on Baseball Prospectus, and I ran across Joe Sheehan’s view on Luke Scott after he was traded to the Orioles. Basically he doesn’t think that Scott is going to produce great numbers in Baltimore. But he had this to say:
“Yes, he’s an upgrade in left field in the short term, in part because the Orioles have populated left field over the past few seasons with utility infielders, radio-station contest winners, and the occasional farm animal. If you compare Scott’s only season of regular playing time with the worst year of Miguel Tejada’s career, you get to say that Scott is ‘better’”
There is one good thing about Scott going to Baltimore from Houston. He moves to a park that inflates left-handed hitter’s numbers, especially power numbers. The 30 year-old (during the season) may hit 15-20 home runs with a league average batting average if he plays Left Field full-time. That is not all that bad for AL-Only leagues, and really deep mixed leagues.
This is the type of player that is best used as a “short day” substitute against weak right handed pitchers. However, if you have a farm animal on your team, Scott is a much needed upgrade for you.

Joe Sheehan isn’t one of my favorite BP writers, but that line was hilarious! mooooo!!
