For the Love of the Game

Two days ago I finished watching a 9 DVD set about the history of baseball. It was entertaining and very informative at the same time. That got me thinking about what I love about the game of baseball. Here are three reasons why I love the game of baseball.
- Pitcher batter matchup - This is my favorite part of the game. I love the battle of wits between the pitcher, who is trying to throw a ball past a man, and the batter, who is trying to hit that very same ball over the fence. There is nothing more exciting then gearing up and throwing a fastball right past an unsuspecting hitter on the inside corner. i bet he never thought that was coming!
- No clock - Baseball is the only sport in which there is no clock dictating what is happening on the field. There is no 24 second shot clock, nor a 2 minute drill offense. The opposing team doesn’t have their chance of winning lowered, because the other team constantly has the ball. Each team receives 27 outs, and what they do with them is up to the team.
- Defense has the ball - Baseball is very unique, because it is the only sport in which the defense has the ball. Think about it. The offense is the batter at the plate, and any runners that are on base. None of them have the ball. The pitcher holds the ball in his hand, and the defense is lying in wait for his next move. Only at the point of contact does the hitter have slight control over the situation.
Those are a few of the reasons why I love the game of baseball, and why it holds a unique spot in my life. Use the comments section of this post, and tell everyone why you love the game of baseball.

I would add one more reason:
Unique playing surface - Yes the infield is consistent in every park but the outfield, foul territory and walls are unique… making each ballpark a special place to play.
