Mailbag Monday

It is time for this week’s installment of Mailbag Monday. Thank you to all that have submitted questions. Please send your questions to the winabango address on the right side, and please put Mailbag Monday in the subject line. Here’s this week’s mail.
Derek - What are your thoughts on having multiple players from the same team? For example, I have Soriano, Lee, and A-Ram on my team. Should I have tried to avoid this (each was the best player available at the time)?
- I try my very best to avoid having more than two offensive players on one MLB team. This is especially true if the core of your offense is built from that one team. I would do everything that I possibly could to trade off one of those players.
Scott - As you mentioned with Pearce, I’m hearing rumors about Bruce, Rasmus, Votto, etc… all being bounced to the Minors for the start. Now that spring training is going to be wrapping up soon, can you give us an update on where managers stand with some of the top prospects that were hyped in the pre-season?
- It is looking more like Bruce will definitely start in Triple-A. Same goes for Rasmus, but I would bet that both won’t be there for long. Evan Longoria appears to be starting the year on the major league level. Cameron Maybin may have played his way into the Marlins starting CF job. Joey Votto is most likely not going to be starting for the Reds, even if he makes the 25-man roster. Make sure you look at Billy Butler instead of some of these other prospects.
Kim - If you had to keep 4 keepers who would you keep out of these: REYES, BERKMAN, ORTIZ, FIGGINS, LACKEY, HARRANG?
- Hmm… You have the obvious ones of Reyes, Berkman, and Ortiz. Before his injury, I would have said Lackey as your fourth. However, I think I would go with Figgins at this point. You will not need to draft speed at any point in the draft.
Gary - I need to get some extra speed. Which of the following players is most likely to make an impact this year? Please provide your opinion on each: Jerry Owens, Corey Patterson, Joey Gathright
- Due to Dusty Baker being the schmuck that he is, Corey Patterson will get the most playing time at the start of the year. However, I do not see him lasting the whole season. Joey Gathright is struggling with getting on base this spring, and may not have a starting job. However, once he gets on, he will take off this year. I personally think that Jerry Owens will have the greatest impact over the entire season. He has all but locked up the starting Center Field job in Chicago, and may even bat lead-off. You know how well Podsednik did the first year playing for Ozzie Guillen.

From the likes of owens, gaithright, and patterson I’d say you already drafted? If not i’d really look at Michael BOURN later in the draft or I am looking at VICTORINO in around the 7-8th round in my draft coming up this saturday. Victorino = Carl Crawford 7-8 rounds later.
I read that online somewhere else and was like WTF!? But look at the stat lines. And with Victorino sitting in that line-up in PHILLY, and a full season with no hamstring injuries he’ll put up a stellar stat line. Crawford does have that potential being 26 to have that BREAK OUT season, but is he worth your first round/early second round pick when you could take victorino 7-8 rounds later and get about equal value minus maybeeee a couple HR’s?
I think not. The FLYIN HAWIIAN for PRESIDENT
TY
I completely agree on Victorino. I watch him every game, and I love what he can do. He also has a fantastic arm in CF.
