Mailbag Monday

Mar 24th, 2008 by winabango

Here is this week’s installment of Mailbag Monday.

Randy: Two Questions: What’s your take on Rafael Soriano’s health? I currently plan to keep him at $10. I’m also looking for guys to consider at the end of the auction; Dukes & McLouth are possibilities. Wondering what you think of Dukes…

  • I love Soriano as a closer, and I am not too concerned about his health
as of right now. I think the Braves are being very cautious this spring,
because they do not have any other options for a closer. PECOTA gives him
a “stuff” rating of 12, which is higher the Mariano Rivera (10), and many
other closers who have regular jobs. In a deep league I certainly would
keep Soriano at $10. BTW the closers with the best stuff is K-Rod and
    Houston Street at 31.
  • I am not a big fan of Dukes. Maybe that is because all of the bad press that he received over the past year or so. I don’t think Dukes will do a whole lot this year. Maybe double digit homeruns with an average below .260, and that is if he plays at the major league level all year. I like McLouth more this year, because he has no competition until Duffy returns. However, in a deep keeper league, Dukes has the long term edge. One of the players that I like deep in a draft is Yuniesky Betancourt. I also like Andre Ethier from the Dodgers.

Who would you suggest picking up for an OF until Curtis Granderson comes back?

Matt Diaz is high on my list right now.

I also see that I can get Nick Swisher or Matt Diaz on the FA which one you think is the better pick? Also, when you get a chance online hit me up.

    Definitely Swisher.
