Quick Random Thoughts

Apr 20th, 2008 by winabango

So here are my random thoughts about Fantasy Baseball.

Injuries - Why do they have to all be on one of my teams, and more importantly, why are they all hand injuries?

Frank Thomas was released from Toronto today, which doesn’t make sense. Why do you offer an old man so much money, and then cut him to save face? If you have him on your fantasy team, I would be cutting him right away. Not only was he dead weight to start this season, but he will be dead weight until he is picked up by another MLB team.

With frank Thomas being released, Adam Lind is being called up. Lind has played very well so far this year, and is worth a flyer in AL-Only leagues. The player that stands to gain the most fantasy value is Matt Stairs. If you are stuggling with injuries (like I am), then he is worth a pickup at this point. He has always been a .300 hitter, and has decent power.

Once again, Gary Sheffield is dealing with shoulder issues. I don’t think at his age this is going to stop anytime soon. However, with Sheff missing, the Tigers lineup still looks fine. You will need to monitor this situation very closely. If someone offers a trade to you, you may want to consider it.

Maybe everyone should add a new category in their leagues… years aged.  Those who own Miguel Tejada would have gained points in that category over the last week.

Here is something that I found completely hysterical. San Francisco Giants band together to score a run. Just goes to show why you should be streaming any pitcher that faces them.

On a more serious note, I actually read a message board thread where someone was considering dropping C.C. Sabathia for Johnny Cueto. Come on, really!?! You never drop a defending Cy Young winner for a rookie. Even though he is as awful right now, you find someone else to drop for Cueto. If you have considered dropping Sabathia this year, please turn off your computer and go find something else to do.
