Finish The Trade (Part 2)

May 15th, 2008 by Tyler Norton

Continued from Part 1.

Well Lind is going to help, but i still have a pretty sorry outfield.

also keep in mind that it was I who traded LeBlanc and Latos to you, I know how good they are.

I have to say no to this trade, because I just don’t see it making my team better, now or in the future. Hanley is the most valuable player in this league (you know that, you traded him to me). For me to trade both him and Hamels is going to require a package that blows me away. And while the package you put together for me was undoubtedly a very good group, it didn’t blow me away.

Bottom line is that if I am trading both I am going to need Headley, and even then I would have to think about it.

Or we could add Zimmerman into the mix:

Zimmerman, Kinsler, Wood, Niemann, Triunfel, Duncan
for
both Hamels and Hanley.

I’m sure you’re going to have an opinion on this. so lets hear it.

I am sure he didn’t honestly think that Kinsler and Zim would be dealt with 3 top prospects and a PP (Prospect Protected) OF. I can’t blame him for trying, but there is 0% chance of that happening. I would call Hanley MVP in a keeper league when he has a min contract. He is clearly pitching his best case scenario to me. Which is cool, I know how these things work, I just wish he started out doing that so we didn’t have to waste a week circling the issue here.

I took over this team about a week before the MLB season started, so I did not know you traded those guys to me. I would have never traded Hanley to anyone if I were running my team back then.

Anyway…
I’d agree to that with a few changes. I cant afford to lose Zim and Kinsler, I wouldn’t be bale to field a competent team (which is the point, i guess). BUT I could loosen up on Headley, leaving us at….

both for Headley, Kinsler, Wood, Niemann, (LeBlanc or Latos), and Duncan

That gives you a very good replacement at MI for Hanley, some help in the OF (with Prospect Protection), and four top 100 prospects. As much as I need these guys help, I don’t think I could find it in myself to drop Zim and Kinsler or 6 top prospects. I do believe we are getting closer however…. let me know.

Duncan is virtually nothing to me. Not that I have people to fill that gap, but a mid level OF is nothing to hold up a blockbuster about. While he made it a point to include him, so I’ll hold him to it. I am about 35K under my cap, so if I had to I could spend some to get some. I immediately shut down that absurd Kinsler/Zim talk, but not without reasoning. I’ll admit I have been blessed with the best farm system, I have 12/15 impact “sure thing” prospects. So while I can afford to lose Headley, I do not want to by any means. Wood has been uninspiring to say the least this year, he is also blocked and inconsistent. I am less in favor of dealing the huge upside prospects (like Trunifel) than I am of guys who are what they are (Wood), so this trade fits well for me.

Wow we are really close to making a deal here. I have to admit I’m still having trouble deciding if I can trade both of them at once. Can you add Blanton to the deal. Because as it is, if we do this trade I’m going to have 3 SP… I wont even qualify for the innings thing.

This news has never been better. Another “is what he is” guy who has a real contract. (1 year, 3.7 mil) I get to unload a bit of cap space to front load someone later, while I would have lost him after the season (without offering him a tag) anyway. I have very little quarrels with this since it means I will b giving up significantly less prospects. Again, GREAT news.

If we are going to include Blanton then a high prospect or two mid levels (relatively) are gonna have to stay. I don’t have many SP either. If you’d take a lesser SP then we could take back only one prospect perhaps.

Play it cool…. play it cool…. don’t sound too excited.

(12 days pass… yes 12 days)

Maybe I sounded too excited?

hey sorry I’ve been so crappy at responding, i just, well I hate my team. I have a couple of really good players, that are great to build a team around, and then a bunch of s*** heads. and the only way i can get better is to trade my good players, but then whats the point because i’ll never get more production/value than hanley ramirez. so gahhhh i don’t know what to do.

“I hate my team” Great news. Sort of strange, less professional than his previous messages. Which is ok, but just odd. I almost wish it was mandatory to conduct yourself like a GM if you do not know your other owner. Regardless, these is no new information here other than the assurance that this deal will get done with a little pushing. So push we shall…

Here’s what I’m gonna do… I’ll shoot you 5-6 offers of different players. Some w/ or w/o Blanton, some for both your guys or one. Pick which you like and let me know…

Offer 1
Hanley and Hamels for Headley, Kinsler, Wood, Niemann, LeBlanc, and Duncan.
No Blanton, no problem. This is less than I offered before (removing the “or Latos” clause)

Offer 2
Hanley and Hamels for Blanton, Duncan, Wood, Latos, LeBlanc and Headley.
Latos and LeBlanc gone, holding onto Truinifel, Neimann, Kinsler, and Zimmerman.

Offer 3
Hamels and Hanley for Kinsler, Blanton, Duncan, LeBlanc, and Latos.
Holding onto all but one (Kinsler) of the original 6 players on the prospect/Zim list from the original message. I’l try to guide him towards this one.

Offer 4
Hanley for Duncan, Blanton, Wood, and Latos.
He only gives away one, but its the big one. I keep Kinsler/Zim most of my prospects.

Offer 5
Hanley for Duncan, Wood, Headley, and Neimann.
No Blanton, no Kinsler/Zim. No way he will do this. Just something to think about if he truly wants to rebuild.

If you are set on getting the 3 MLB ready NOW guys then offer 3 is your best bet. Just know itll cost you in prospects (obviously).

This is all assuming Hanley’s contract remains the same in here. If it changes we are going to have to adjust. I have sent a PM to the commish to ask about it already.

Hanley can ride out his Prospect Protection for 2 more years and then it gets a bit complex, but lets ignore that for now assuming it would have happened anyway.

Not by design, but it looks like this is going to be a three part job. It is getting more interesting, and I feel like this is as close to a GM interaction as any fantasy league is going to get. Let me know what you think, and I’ll see you for part three.
