As if you cannot tell from the title… Joe Blanton was traded to the Phillies today.  As a Phillies fan, this is a solid deal to make.  The A’s get the Phillies top middle infield prospect, but with Utley and Rollins locked up for the next several years, he did not stand to see much playing time.

So what about the fantasy impact?

Well Blanton moves from one of the best pitcher’s park to one of the worst.  So expect fir low 8.0% HR/FB ratio to climb.  The best part about Blanton is that he does induce ground balls at a decent clip (46.2%), and the Phillies have a great defense up the middle.

So his overall performance will not improve much, but he will be in line for a greater amount of wins.  That is what will make his fantasy value rise.  I personally still think he is only deep mixed league material, but is worth a flyer for spots starts.
