Well, Well, Well….so you’re either in or you’re out. This week is it. For those looking for a little edge, let’s get to it. Week 15 provided a couple stand out performances that may sway our line ups this week. Reggie Bush has been hot & cold all year, some weeks you barely remember he is on the team an other weeks, well….he did what he did on Sunday rushing for over 200 yards and Td. Indianapolis RB Donald Brown showed up and rushed for 160 Yards and Td, I think a lot of us expected more from him this year. TE Brent Celek had a game we all knew he was capable of but could never get on the same page with Vick for most of the year, catching 5 for 156 and a Td. Then comes the enigma that is Darrius Heyward-Bey, he’s gonna break out, oh wait no he’s not, Carson Palmer is gonna get him the ball, pick him up! He barely plays against the Broncos, drop him! DHB put up great numbers this Sunday where he caught 8 for 155 and a Td. I don’t even have to mention Megatron, Shady & Brees, because they do what they do. Of course that what last week, what have you done for me lately. Keep in note; a lot of must win games for teams will play a huge factor in performances. Here we go! ***Friendly reminder: The bulk of games are being played on Saturday. QuarterbacksFor those in 2 QB leagues looking for a little edge or for those still trying to find an injury replacement. START TJ Yates, QB – Houston at Indianapolis (Thursday Night) TJ won’t have a difficult time like he did last week. Don’t let Indy’s win last week make you think they are turning a corner. The Texans are guaranteed a place in the playoffs, so look for them to get TJ a little confidence this week, by putting him in a position to have a successful outing and see if he can carry it forward.
Matt Moore, QB – Miami at New England I have always been a fan of starting whatever QB is facing the New England Patriots and their woeful pass defense. The Pats defense still has the worst pass defense in the league giving up just under 300 yards a game. Tim Tebow, QB – Denver at Buffalo Still a solid play each week, Tim provides points both through the air and on the ground. His high risk, high reward play is usually too good to pass up. The Broncos face a Bills defense that gives over 26 pts a game. Being a must win for the Broncos, expect Tebow and company to bring their A game.
SIT Joe Flacco, QB – Baltimore vs. Cleveland It’s surprising to see such a good defense have such a bad overall record. That’s the case with the Cleveland Browns and their 4 – 10 record. They are especially good against the pass giving up only 188 yard a game.
Eli Manning, QB – NY Giants at (or Home) NY Jets It doesn’t look good for Eli. After a miserable performance against the Redskins, it won’t help Eli when he faces their New York counterparts. The Jets have given up the 2nd least passing Td’s on the year, 13 to be exact but have picked off 16. Good luck, Eli. Running BacksFor those who are looking for a solid RB2 or FLEX play: START Felix Jones, RB – Dallas vs. Philadelphia With DeMarco Murray out, Jones rushed for over a 100 yards with a more impressive 4.9 yards a carry average. A must win for both teams; expect this to be a battle. However, the Eagles are a lot better defending the pass than the run, expect the Cowboys to try and exploit their run defense. ***Editors note - keep an eye on Jones - he has been battling a hamstring. If he is unable to go, RB Sammy Morris will get the nod and could be a sneaky sleeper candidate. DJL Reggie Bush, RB – Miami at New England Reggie has rushed for over a 100 Yards a game in 3 of his last 4, including a 200 yard game. Ride the hot hand!!!!!
Rashard Mendenhall, RB – Pittsburgh vs. St. Louis Facing the worst rush defense in the league, having a banged up QB, makes it a strong possibility that Mendenhall has a monster game.
SIT Marshawn Lynch, RB – Seattle vs. San Francisco The 49ers given up a league best 71 rushing yards a game AND still have not let up a rushing touchdown. Beanie Wells, RB – Arizona at Cincinnati Facing a strong rush defense (giving up less than 100 yards a game) and a team in a must win situation, Beanie and the Cards will have difficult team moving the ball.
Wide ReceiversFor those looking for a little WR match up help and a nice FLEX option: START Santonio Holmes, WR – NY Jets vs. NY Giants Another team in a must win situation, the Jets will play a home (cough) game against the Giants. The Giants are in the Top 5, no wait Bottom 5 in defense for both passing yards and passing Td’s allowed. Julio Jones, WR – Atlanta at New Orleans Shaping up to be quite a shoot out, Julio has been involved in the passing offense quite a bit lately, scoring 3 Td’s and veraging 94 yards in his last 2 games. Despite his poor performance the first time he’s faced the Saints, expect bigger things.
Santana Moss, WR – Washington vs. Minnesota The bad news for Santana is that Washington is out of the playoff race, the good news for Santana is Minnesota’s pass defense is giving up the most passing Td’s in the league (31) and with Rex continuing to state his case to be the starter next year, look for them to click.
SIT Anquan Boldin, WR – Baltimore vs. Cleveland A tough match up for Anquan this week. Much like Joe Flacco above the Browns sport a very good pass defense. Letting up only 1 Td pass a game. Hakeem Nicks, WR – NY Giants at (or Home) NY Jets After the drop heard around the world (ok maybe only by football fans) Hakeem is lucky enough to be matched up against Darrelle Revis this week.
Tight EndsThe TE can no longer be over looked. They can truly make or break a week. START Brent Celek, TE – Philadelphia at Cowboys Riding a high, Brent will head to Cowboy stadium and face a defense he had success against the first time, reeling in 7 for 94 yards and a Td. Dallas is known to give up fantasy points to TE’s. Dustin Keller, TE – NY Jets vs. NY Giants The Jets will need to be firing on all cylinders. That means all their weapons will be utilized. The Giants aren’t great against the pass and aren’t successful in stopping opposing TE’s.
SIT Jermaine Gresham, TE – Cincinnati vs. Arizona Jerminane has been very mediocre in his last 4, averaging 41 yards a game and only 1 Td. Not good, and Arizona does hold opposing TE’s a bay. So don’t expect much. Good Luck!
